True Greatness

This post carries a tone more somber than that of those I normally write.  It contains less of the “rah, rah!” and “You can do it!” factor.

It comes only with a simple reminder. A baseline for all the rest of life.

I have talked of greatness on the blog, and we have already discussed uncovering passion and finding purpose.

When I talked of excellence, I most often spoke from the standpoint of what one does rather than who one is, but I missed the most important thing. It was there–underneath all the rest–but I failed to highlight the truth.

Greatness is not what you do or even how you do it.  True greatness lies at the core of who you are.

Go within. Find out what is there, and passion will guide you the rest of the way. Without passion, excellence alone is a cheap substitute.

Love absolutely. Love undeniably. Love without reservation. That is greatness. The closer you get to love, the greater your life will be whether people “get it” or not.

We cannot all do great things,
but we can do small things with great love.

I really enjoyed this post, Steve. It spoke about how we actually the power to our greatness within us and how the true greatness is the love that we offer. I’d go as far as even saying the love that we offer ourselves first, and then to others. I’m learning through others that it’s that love that we have for ourselves that we’re able to share with other’s that actually makes us great. I read a book awhile back by the title of, “What Makes the Great Great” by Dennis Kimbro and in it, he states “A man must be self-made before he is ever made.”

Thanks for sharing this awesomeness bud!

Thanks, Deeone. It’s true.  We have to recognize the love within ourselves before we can offer it to another.  Otherwise we are just looking to someone else to fill up what we think is missing in ourselves.

Thanks for sharing the great quote from Dennis Kimbro’s book.

Good morning, Steve…thanks for starting my day with this awesome reminder to always come from a place of love and anything is possible!  This wonderfully simple truth just can’t be spoken of often enough and you verbalized it beautifully.  I absolutely love the quote from Mother Theresa…I believe all “small things done with great love” become great things!!  Have a terrific day….

Thank you, Judy for stopping by.  I really appreciate it. It was a great reminder to me and that’s why I wrote the piece…mostly as a reminder to me! :)  So appreciate you stopping by the blog to read and comment.

Great reminder, Steve! I think we’ve all become so preoccupied with what we own, what we look like, and what we do for a living we forget that all is well just because we are here. What a relief it is when we grasp this principle.

Thanks, Sherrie.  I just realized I didn’t plan a meeting with you this a.m.  :(  Sorry.  We’ll catch up soon, though.

It is easy to get all tied up in that stuff…and that’s exactly what I wanted to remind myself and my readers. :)

All the traditions and wisdom tells us that Love is the pinnacle emotion and the true experience of ourselves.  The Scriptures even go so far as to say that God is Love.  Sometimes we lose site of this truth and the fact that we are the image of God.  Love is our natural state of non-resistance and allowing.  If we return to Love, we remove resistance to our circumstances.

    Loved the post Steve!

Yes indeed, we all need to introspect and go within the core of who and what we are. That is the real greatness of your being. And yes, love simply unconditionally :)
