Regaining Personal Power

Losing Personal Power

Have you ever felt like you have lost your way? Have you felt like you have lost your power?

Feeling lost in a relationship, it seems as if you had given your power to another. Having settled for a job because it is “good money,” you later find that your energy and personal power seem to seep away.

How do we get back on track?  How do we regain personal power…especially when we feel stuck?

I mean you can’t just quit your job and walk away from a mortgage or car payment. You can’t abandon a relationship at the expense of your children. At the same time, we can’t continue to diminish ourselves through the slow dilution of the spirit.

How do we recover our power? When we talk about regaining personal power, what do we mean?

Defining Personal Power

Personal power is the expression of our true selves; but from the moment of our birth, the opinions, beliefs and expectations of others begins to dilute our purpose as we seek to find “our place” in the world.

Our Power Is the Expression of Our True Selves

We spend the rest of our lives trying to regain the understanding of what we already know deep within. Power comes from the integrity (or congruity) of the soul.

The Myth of Lost Power

You have never lost your power, you have simply allowed it to become diluted. We must recognize the truth, embrace this understanding, and learn to trust ourselves. Belief unlocks the door for the exercise of true power.

The key lies in distilling that which has been diluted. Reclaiming the power that already lies within requires a certain ruthlessness. Not a ruthless disregard for the feelings and experiences of others; but rather, an unwavering focus on who we are at our core and what we are meant to do.

This endeavor requires great courage and concentration.  It requires that we abandon the distractions that entangle us and retain precise focus on the purpose for which we have come into this life!

If you are feeling a bit disconnected and are interested in taking action to regain your power, join me this month for the “one thing” challenge.  Join us on Facebook and tell us about the “one (essential) thing” that you are doing to express your purpose each day.

    Beautiful post Steve!

I do agree that we often loose the power or will of doing things though actually, it is not really lost- we simply get distracted into other unnecessary things that makes us feel so. You are so right in stating that we need to remain focused on the things that are needed or requiring your attention first- that itself would give you the lost power to feel as if you have accomplished something.

    Thanks for sharing  :)

That’s exactly it, Harleena!  It’s about the distraction  or “dilution” of ourselves by all the things around us.  We have to come back to the truly important part…we have to distill the wonder of our true selves and come back to what we have never lost in the first place.

    Hi Steve,

We are all that we want, or want to be.

If we don’t see it, we block it. The unwavering release of blockages is all that separates you, from the real you. Dissolving limiting beliefs. Realizing the great truth: all you want is within. You have it. You must allow it to surface. Allowing means trusting, and continuing to move into uncomfortable areas, to let your higher self speak out loud.

    Thanks!

    Ryan

Love this: “the unwavering release of blockages is all that separates you from the real you.  It really is about surrender, isn’t it? You are so right.  It does require deep trust to make the uncomfortable comfortable.   Thanks for your inspiration, my friend.

    Hey Steve,
Sure, I feel this way at times. For me it was often caused by having my personal boundaries too loose. Nothing is more draining and disempowering than having someone trample all over me.

    • http://www.KarmicKappuccino.com Steve Rice

That’s a great point, Justin.  It’s so important to maintain healthy boundaries.  When we allow anything (or anyone) to distract us from the truth of ourselves.  Thanks for your great insight.

    Hi Steve,

I love that you point out that our power is never gone. We are simply disconnected from it. We can always reconnect at any time. It’s waiting for us.

When I have a low moment (it does happen), it helps me a lot to remember that my power, that feeling of strength and knowing and happy, shiny puppy-ness is there for me. It didn’t leave and it’s not unreachable. I just have to attune to it. And that thought alone already gets me most of the way there. We are never stuck, even when we feel like we are.

    Huge hugs to you,
    Melody

I love it!  ”Shiny puppy-ness” YES!  ”We are never stuck, even when we feel that we are”

    Very poignant piece, Steve!

Times in our lives when we are most vulnerable, down-in-the-dumps, unclear about our goals, shaky in our relationships, and lacking in confidence are the moments our personal “power” will wane.

But you’re right!  It’s still (faithfully) present within us.

Like the lightning bugs we used to catch as kids …

We need to grab our personal power jars and recapture the light, the spunk, and the spark!

    Melanie :)

I love your analogy to the lightning bugs.  It’s really about re-connecting to what is already within us and letting our light “shine” !

      • http://www.melaniekissell.com melaniekissell

Hey Steve — glad you enjoyed my lightning bugs analogy.

It’s been far too long since I visited last and I can see I’ve been missing out on the dispensing of a lot of wonderful information.  I better get my fanny over here more often!  :)

No worries, Melanie.  I’ve been slowly adjusting the tone and message of this site as I continue to grow.  Glad you were able to check in again.  I understand where you are coming from, though.  I recently became overwhelmed with all the bloggers I was trying to keep up with on my Reader and had to take a break.

      Hi Mel
“We need to grab our personal power jars and recapture the light, the spunk, and the spark! ”

No point im my trying to leave a clever comment when I’m competing with lines like that.
A word picture and a list of 3 in one sentence!
      I know when I’m beaten.

BTW – Steve, I’ll be back later to leave a witty comment.
Usually takes me about two days to write one. LOL

      • http://www.KarmicKappuccino.com Steve Rice

No worries, Keith.  I appreciate you chiming in.  Mel hit the nail on the head.  This analogy was PERFECT for this piece…hence, the reason I remain convinced that the best content is often found in the comments. :)

        • http://www.melaniekissell.com melaniekissell

          Immense thanks, Steve.

Be sure to check my reply to Keith’s comment.  There’s got to be a boat load of people out there who are putting some juicy stuff in the comment box!  :)

      • http://www.melaniekissell.com melaniekissell

Keith, I’m leaving humble pie on the table this time.  Flattery will get you everywhere!  LOL  :)

Why, oh, why hasn’t someone started a “commenting” contest in lieu of a blogging contest for a change of pace?  I know of a couple pretty good contenders. *Wink*

        • http://www.KarmicKappuccino.com Steve Rice

What a great idea, Melanie! It would be neat to write an “anchor” or “base” piece and create a more detailed commenting discussion on it. Maybe we should try to do something like that….hmm (now you got my wheels turning)

    Hi Steve,

I love the sentence You have never lost your power, you have simply allowed it to become dilute”"

If we have the illusion that we have lost our power, it just means that we focus to much on negative emotions. By balancing our emotions, we can find back our balance and focus on our purpose.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • http://www.KarmicKappuccino.com Steve Rice

Your tip about re-focusing our emotions is really the simplest way to regain equilibrium, isn’t it?  So appreciative of you stopping by and contributing your insights…really helpful, Marc!
