Improve Your Communication, Improve Your Life

One’s ability to communicate effectively directly impacts the quality of one’s relationships and, consequently, one’s life experience.

The challenge with communication and the relationships in our lives is not just the importance of our ability to communicate our intentions and desires, but the importance of being able to hear what those in relationship with us are communicating to us as well.

Evie at One Insight Closer has invited me to share my insights and experience at her blog.

Go here to read my guest post entitled: Best Practices” for Communication in Relationship.

Appreciate your support and comments there!

    Steve,
Communication is such a powerful tool that very few know how to utilize.

Most of us have learned how to communicate from people who were not that good themselves.

you’re correct, Justin. Most people don’t know how to use communication effectively. Even the “good communicator” or those who think they are can learn something. i remember when I realized this. I had begun facilitating relationship workshops and learning some communication techniques. I was always shocked by how much I learned in the difference between what i thought I heard someone say and what the person really meant to communicate.

It looks like you have had plenty of experience with your life as it is what has been always reflected in all the articles you have written here. As they have said it “Man is a social animal”, so it needs to socialize, and the better he does it, the better he gets.

Thanks for commenting here, James! I appreciate your getting involved here. You’re right that people are social. we have to connect to one another! Sadly, we perpetuate the dysfunction that we learned growing up unless we make the conscious effort to change it. Thanks so much again for your input and unique perspective.

Well, as far as experiences are concerned, we all should engrave the good ones and learn from bad ones, that’s it. If you have been stabbed by someone doesn’t mean every one is going to do so. People need to get over their fears and then communicate, else their life is going to get miserable, that’s it.

        You are always welcome! :)

I had a manager before whom I (and my team) had conflicts with. He wanted to fire us so he reported us to our boss without talking to us first. When we had an open forum, his reason was because he is not good in communication. So I told him that it was not a good reason. As a manager, you have to work on it to be able to solve problems at work. He didn’t want to work on his weakness so our working relationship ended. People should understand that communication should be a two way process.

    • http://www.StevenERice.com Steve

Thanks, Drew, for stopping by. Communication is a two-way process. If someone refuses to work on themselves and be open, there is no way to improve communication.

Great post. Such basic stuff and simplisity that we tend to forget as we go about our daily lives. I’d also add “Improve your life” to the list. Being aware of who and what we are, and of our impact on others is also part of being “morally excellent” (LOVE that term!!)
