Direction is Everything!

Which Direction Are You Going?

Life is in perpetual motion. That is its nature.

I struggled with clarity for a long time.  The past few years have been a study in gaining clarity.  I gained clarity about my purpose…and got stuck.  I gained clarity about writing my book…and got stuck.  I finished and published my book…and got stuck.

Often we say things like…

“I’m stuck in a rut”

“I feel bogged down”

“I can’t get any traction.”

And honestly, that’s where I have been for the last 8-9 months.  Just trying to figure it out.

Of course, these are simply metaphors used to describe how we feel at any given moment (and I’ve been there…and said all three of the above, and others beside).  If you have been reading this blog over all these months, then you have had a front-row seat to my “stuckiness”.

The truth is that we are not really “stalled out” in life. Our life is just going in a direction in which we do not want to go or in a manner in which we feel out of control.

When it comes to living the life you dream for yourself, take a look at the direction you’re headed.

Heading In The Right Direction

Directing your life in the right direction requires some discipline, skill and even a bit of blind luck–if you really believe in such a thing!

That is why I have been touting the changes coming to this blog.  I love this site and I love each of you…but a blog is not a business.  It won’t pay bills or buy food.

It is a fantastic tool for communication; however, and I love the dialogue this site affords you and me.  The truth is that I haven’t been entirely honest.  But that is changing as I inject greater authenticity into the work I do here (and more honesty about why I do it)

I guarantee that when you align your life in a direction that serves you, you will not struggle to motivate yourself to take action.  When you are headed in the right direction, gaining clarity occurs much more easily.

That’s why I am so excited.  I have been working feverishly on the new direction.  I want to share a few of those with you.  I am planning to launch a regular podcast for you (very soon…think, within a week or two)…still working out the logistics.

I also have our new “home” on the web (new URL) picked out and I think you’ll like it.  I just want to get it spruced up a bit before I invite you all over for a housewarming party!

Be looking for a regular newsletter going forward as well.  I don’t want to inundate you with more “stuff”…that is not the purpose.  However, I do want to provide you with support, guidance and inspiration on your journey.

Bottom line is that the next time you find yourself complaining about a lack of focus, energy or direction; stand up, take courage, and set your own direction.  We’re waiting for you to show us that the miraculous is still possible.

I just discovered your site here, Steve, and like what I see. I’m interested to see what changes come down the pike soon.

Getting stuck is a frustrating feeling that can lead to the sense that we’re running without going anywhere, spinning our wheels in the mud, to mix metaphors.

What helps me get grounded and inspired to move in a particular direction is when I connect with my core values. Sometimes I find the direction I’m trying to move in conflicts with those core values and when I realign myself to them, things tend to fit into place a bit better and more harmoniously.

Look forward to getting to know your site, Steve.

      Hi, Ken!

Welcome! So glad you found us here and stopped to contribute.  Means a lot.  Always curious how people find us.  Did you find me through another blog or social media?

Your insight to return to our core values is powerful…in fact, I think that’s advice Stephen Covey gives in 7 Habits (been a decade or more since I read that book, but I think that’s it!) :)

Conflict always arises when we become disconnected from our core (or values).  Great input.

Look forward to seeing more of you around! :)

    Hi Steve,

It’s wonderful to have watched you move past your stucky-ness. :o D And to see you now moving in a new, more inspired direction. Not that you weren’t inspired before It seems like you’ve made a small but incredibly significant adjustment and now you’re just barreling forward. I think there’s a huge lesson here. When we’re stuck, we tend to think “I’m doing something wrong. I’m going in the wrong direction”, but it could really just be that we need to make a minor adjustment. Move an inch to the right and you can walk around the wall, that sort of thing.

Bring on the podcasts! Oooh, that reminds me, it’s once again been a while since I’ve brought on out… EEEEEK! :o )

    Hugs!
    Melody

Thanks for the kind encouragement, Melody.  You are right, the adjustment was small…yet monumental. Just a ‘tidbit’ for you (and anyone diligent enough to read comments on comments)…the podcast will be called “Awake!”  and the new site is going to be True Spirit Awakening.  So definitely a shift of focus…not so much difference in content, just more clearly focused…like you said, “move an inch; walk around the wall”

Excited about the future…and I will be twisting your arm to be a guest on the podcast! :)

What I said was that I’d “lost my mojo.” But it amounts to the same kind of feeling you described. And I swam around in it for months. And then I got motivated to try to fix it. But even though the things I did were great, they didn’t really work! So I gave up & decided to just see what unfolded. Some time passed. And then the other day, while thinking about my work, I realized that a shift had occurred. I wasn’t back to doing everything I thought I would once I “got my mojo back,” but I still think it’s back. So once again, I’ll wait to see what unfolds…

Jeanine!  A big part of moving forward is the skill of learning to “allow” the flow of life.  It’s interesting how the fastest transformation sometimes happens within when we release the struggle to “get ahead” or do things the “right way!”

Sometimes by being still, we gain the perspective to recognize that what was important to us once is no longer very important.  That’s powerful.  Thanks for sharing.

Stuckness is part of the creative (and living) process – totally normal, and it goes away after a while.  What’s important is how you deal with it and what you learn.  Seems like you’re doing a great job of soaking up the lessons from your stuck periods, so I wouldn’t stress too much about it.  The blog is going places, and your tribe isn’t going to resent you a newsletter (it’s not like you’re forcing them to sign up!).  Rock your shit, man!

You’re dead-on with this perspective, Ellie! It is about what we learn and how we move on from our “stuckness”. Thanks for the encouragement.

I can’t tell you how much your transparency continues to inspire me!! You keep renewing my hope in living the life that I dream about. I salute you and your journey!!

This means so much, and I”m so thankful that it connected in such a personal way with you, Earl.  It means so much on a personal level for me because you were one of my first “commenting” readers and have been here nearly from the beginning.

There are greater things coming just around the bend.  Hold on!
