An Imperceptible Spark Is Lit: Part 1

This is the first post in a 3-part series about how my new book An Imperceptible Spark: Finding the Courage to Live a Life of Joy came to be. (Part Two and Part Three)

Actually, the title alludes to it: A Spark Is Lit.

Imperceptible Spark in handAfter I had written the entire manuscript, I looked back and asked myself how it had actually happened.  I had tried dozens of times before to write a book, but I had never completed one.  I always had the desire to write, but had never been successful to complete it.

What made the difference? I asked myself.

Making a Life-Changing Decision

It really was that imperceptible decision–a spark–that started the whole process on fire. I was sitting in my bedroom one night and a re-run of the Oprah show came on. She was interviewing a young actress who made a random comment about living with joy. For some reason, that comment captured my imagination and my mind started whirling.

For a couple of days I couldn’t get this idea of living with joy out of my head. One night, soon after, I could not sleep, so Notebook of Imperceptible Spark I got up and grabbed a notebook and started writing. The pages of thoughts poured from me and I finally shut it at about 3 a.m. and forced myself to go to sleep so I could get up for work the next morning.

That is how it all started. A single idea. An inescapable thought. And a few hand-written pages in a notebook.

Read here about the continuation of my journey and the obstacles I faced when I picked up my notebook to write again.

What about you? What are the sparks that is waiting to be lit in your life?  What are the sparks that have been lit, but are sputtering from lack of attention?  Would love to hear your stories in the comments section below.

Steve, I am supposed to be in bed right now, and to be honest, I know I have seen you around the blogosphere… but not too sure if I popped in before or not.

I came home from the mall, (took my kids shopping) and have been meaning to get horizontal as they have sports day tomorrow! (sorry I digress ha ha)

Course, being nosey, popped in to look at ‘things’… you know, make sure the internet was still there and had managed without me, and somehow … landed here. So thanks a lot (lol)

I just read a post from Marcus Baker (you have probably run into him I think…??!) maybe… but he just wrote on the fact that some men think it’s ‘uncool’ to watch Oprah. Course, I set him straight and told him I thought it was very cool. :-)

Then, being nosey, I’m investigating your journey and noticed you also connected with many of the awesome show’s she’s brought to us.

    isnt’ that funny?

I love to hear about light bulb moments. Can’t wait to spend more time here.

till then, I have to get to bed or I will be in no shape for Sports Day at the school tomorrow!

Thanks for the great bedtime reads! I would say I would take you to bed with me (in laptop form of course) but this chicky needs her beauty sleep!

    I will pop back tomorrow!

LOL. I know what you mean, Jayne…by popping in to look at things…I was in Yellowstone Park last week for several days without Internet and cell service. What a shock to find out that the world didn’t come to an end when I was “off the grid”.

Hope you have a great time at Sports Day with your kids. Look forward to reading more of your blog in the days to come too!
